BasicTalk™ service is compatible with DSL high-speed broadband Internet service. To maintain your DSL Internet service when you transfer your phone number, your DSL service needs to be modified for the number transfer process to complete successfully.
DSL Internet service comes into your home on the same line as your phone service. When you transfer your phone service to BasicTalk™, the DSL Internet service must be separated and converted to a stand-alone service when the number transfer completes. This may also be called "dry loop" DSL Internet service by your provider.
Before you start your number transfer:
- Contact your DSL Internet service provider to request they convert your DSL to a stand-alone service upon completion of the number transfer. If the stand-alone service is not set up you will lose your Internet service and the ability to make phone calls. You can check your number transfer status in your BasicTalk™ Online Account to determine the date that the transfer will complete.
- Your DSL Internet service provider should provide you with a confirmation number for the conversion.
- If your DSL Internet service provider does not offer a stand-alone or dry loop DSL service, you need to consider another high-speed internet service provider.
